Gufram, the radical Italian design brand known for its bold art furniture, has partnered with the Andy Warhol Foundation of Visual Arts to present a trio of limited edition Pop Art Cactus Coat Stands.

Originally designed in 1972 by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello for Gufram, 2022 sees the Cactus celebrate its 50th anniversary. Over the past 50 years the cactus has been presented in a number of editions and variations, one of the most notable being the collaboration with British designer Paul Smith.

Like the coat stands before, the Gufram x Andy Warhol edition is made from the original 1972 mould, and sculpted and hand finished by specialised artisans, making each piece unique. The 2,165 polyurethane bosses that characterise the surface are then painted with Guflac, Gufram’s patented paint that makes the surface look hard to the touch, while still allowing it to remain flexible and soft.

Produced in limited edition of 99 pieces in each colourway, the three variations are aptly titled, 'Andy's Blue Cactus', 'Andy's Yellow Cactus' and 'Andy's Pink Cactus'.

"The collaboration between Gufram and Andy Warhol feels so right that it’s almost absurd that it has never happened before! Finally the pop art genius has encountered Cactus, the most pop design icon” explains Charley Vezza of Gufram.

“We started off imagining how Warhol could have depicted the Cactus and then we created the 3D version by working with a trio of typically Warhol colors and highlighting their tips with black, just as in one of the artist’s screenprints" adds Vezza.
